Lesson7:Selecting a Date Range+Quicken Export
In some cases you might want to generate a report only for a specific date range
(like one week or one month) without having to reselect the data files in Step2
or when transactions are stored on one big data file.
We assume that you still have the Broker/Input type set to "Manual Transaction
Entry" and
the Manual Data File specified in Step2 as "\StockTax\YourData\Lesson6.man"
To start the Report Details window:
Press 3
(or click on the "Define Report Details" button shown below)
In this lesson we will select only transactions in the date range of Jan 1 to 20, 2000
for our manual transaction file created in Lesson6
Check the check box and
enter the 1/10 and 1/20 as the begin and end date
The Date Filter section in the Report Details window should look like:
Then uncheck the check box and
check the check
box
The Report Options section in the Report Details window should look like:
Close the Data Selection box by
clicking on the button
Now run the report:
Press 4
(or click on the "Generate your Report" button shown below)
The filtered Report will look like: Type Shares Symbol Date bought Net Paid Date sold Net Received Gain or Loss Percent ==== ====== ====== =========== =============== ========== =============== =============== ======= Long 100 MSFT 2000/01/10 10,005.00 2000/01/20 10,990.00 985.00 9.85 ==== ====== ====== =========== =============== ========== =============== =============== ======= TOTAL 10,005.00 10,990.00 985.00 9.85 FEES 15.00
The SELL from 1/30/200 has been filtered out: Long 100 MSFT 2000/01/10 2000/01/30 10,005.00 11,990.00 1,985.00 19.84 Notice how StockTax has split the Cost Basis of $20,010 in two proportional amounts ($10,005) and created two Sales events for each Sell (100+100) related to the original SINGLE Buy (200)! StockTax has also generated a new transaction data file "\StockTax\YourData\Orders.QIF" in the industry standard Quicken QIF Format, so you can use many other accounting software packages to work with your trading transaction data!
